January 2012. SW Va Nursing Home located in the coalfields of this area agreed to settle a lawsuit filed by the family of a woman who fell from her wheelchair, which in turn broke her hip and she soon thereafter died. There was proof that the nursing home had been told, by the family of the resident, that the resident was sliding out of her chair on different occassions preceding the fall. At issue was whether facility used a wedge cushion in her wheel chair, to help prevent falling. Large and Associates conducted a through investigation showing that the cushion may not have been used on the evening of the fall.
The case was mediated, settled for confidential amount.
