This is an article pertaining to a case where Michael Large served as Virginia Counsel involving Sexual Molestation/Rape in an NHC nursing home.
BRISTOL, Va. – The former nursing home aide accused of sexually assaulting elderly patients in his care is leaving it up to a judge to determine how much of a possible 80-year prison sentence he will serve.
James Wright, 34, on Thursday entered an Alford plea to four counts of aggravated sexual battery, which each carry a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison. The plea acknowledges that prosecutors’ evidence is sufficient to convict him without admitting guilt – though it is treated as a guilty plea by the court.
Barry Proctor, Wright’s attorney, said he had been negotiating a plea agreement with the Bristol Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office but did not strike a deal. Wright appeared in court Thursday for a hearing on whether television cameras would be permitted in the courtroom during his trial, but Circuit Court Judge Larry Kirksey decided to hear his plea ahead of schedule, mooting the camera issue.
